Call For Tech NowModel Description
The 2023 Honda Pilot, launched in 2022, marked a significant milestone as the fourth generation of Honda’s flagship SUV. This new iteration not only brought a conventional version but also introduced a more rugged TrailSport variant, designed for adventurous pursuits.
Over the course of just twenty years, the Pilot evolved through four generations. While the inaugural model in 2002 was essentially an enlarged version of the CR-V, the 2023 model represented a major departure by being built on a truck platform. Its exterior design showcased a bold new look, distinct from previous generations, and incorporated advanced features to tackle modern challenges. Notably, it offered the most interior space yet, with an eight-seat configuration available for the Limited trim. The entire lineup benefited from a new ten-speed automatic transmission, a more powerful engine, and an upgraded cabin.
The front fascia of the 2023 Pilot featured a flat grille, giving the SUV a more rugged appearance. Its slim LED headlights, equipped with daytime running lights, echoed the design language seen in the Civic lineup, albeit on a larger scale. The lower portion of the bumper varied depending on the trim level, with black inserts on functional side scoops flanking the lower air intake for base models, while the Limited trim boasted chrome accents.
Even the base Sport trim exuded a rugged look, but the TrailSport took it a step further with black cladding around the wheel arches, all-terrain tires, and black side sills that suggested increased ground clearance. A distinctive feature of the fourth-generation Pilot was its forward-sloping C-pillars, a rarity in this segment, particularly with nearly vertical tailgate and D-posts. The rear end showcased wide taillights that extended from the quarter panels onto the tailgate.
Inside, comfort was prioritized with heated front seats available across all trims. The dashboard housed a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Upper trims received a larger nine-inch display with wireless connectivity for both systems. All versions offered seating for up to eight passengers, with a removable middle seat in the second row providing additional space for rear passengers. Honda transformed the Pilot into a true people mover, offering ample room for adults in the third row.
Under the hood, the Pilot utilized an improved version of the 3.5-liter V6 engine from the previous generation. This time, it was paired with a standard ten-speed automatic transmission. Buyers could choose between front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on the trim level. The TrailSport variant came exclusively with all-wheel drive, enabling it to tow up to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg).
