Call For Tech NowModel Description
When Honda decided to unveil a new generation of the iconic NSX, it took a decade of meticulous development before finally revealing the second generation at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. The NSX moniker, standing for New Sportscar eXperimental, first graced the automotive world in 1990 for the 1991 model year. This initial venture was a significant risk for Honda, but it paid off handsomely. The original NSX established itself as a daily-driven supercar, with its performance finely tuned by none other than legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna. Given the high standards set by its predecessor, Honda’s ten-year development period for the second-generation NSX was understandable. From its debut in 2015 until the final unit rolled off the assembly line in 2022, the NSX captivated enthusiasts. It was marketed under the Honda badge in some regions and as Acura in others.
The 2016 NSX retained the mid-engine layout and short nose of its predecessor but introduced a more angular front fascia. This featured slim LED headlights and a distinctive pentagonal grille, flanked by wide side scoops. The car’s profile showcased an arched roofline that swept down to the rear, enclosing the engine compartment. Strategic air intakes were positioned in front of the rear wheel arches to manage engine cooling and airflow. At the rear, Honda’s designers incorporated LED taillights connected by a red strip.
Inside, the NSX offered a luxurious cabin despite its sporty exterior. The high-bolstered seats provided both comfort and excellent side support. A prominent center console housed the gearbox controls, eschewing a traditional shift lever. The driver faced a TFT display that ingeniously integrated a digital speedometer within a circular tachometer.
Under the hood, the NSX boasted an advanced powertrain combining a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with three electric motors—two up front and one at the rear. This setup propelled the NSX into supercar territory, although Honda позиционировала it primarily as a grand tourer.
