In early 2022, Toyota presented its third-generation Sequoia, the largest SUV in its lineup, which shares the chassis with the robust Tundra pickup truck.
The original Sequoia made its debut in 2000, positioning Toyota alongside industry giants like the Ford Excursion and Chevrolet Tahoe. The second generation of this premium SUV, excluding the Lexus models, was launched in 2007. However, it took until 2022 for the automaker to introduce a fully redesigned version.
Externally, the vehicle mirrors its pickup counterpart with matching front panels, including comparable headlamps and an imposing grille. A protective aluminum-like shield beneath the thick bumper guards the vehicle’s underside. Viewed from the side, the 2022 Sequoia showcases a distinctive continuous line running from the hood to the rear D-pillar. Enhanced wheel arches and quarter panels contribute to its powerful stance, reminiscent of a sumo wrestler’s presence.
The cabin accommodates up to eight occupants across three rows of seats configured in a 2-3-3 layout, depending on the selected options. The interior features a dashboard design shared with the Tundra, complemented by additional passenger-side trim and ambient lighting options. A prominent 14-inch touchscreen dominates the center console, offering integration with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Sharing the Tundra’s platform, the Sequoia incorporates a fully independent front suspension paired with a five-link setup at the rear. The powertrain includes a hybrid system capable of delivering power to either the rear wheels or all four wheels, depending on the chosen trim level.
