When developing the 2020 version of its renowned Land Cruiser/Prado, Toyota stayed faithful to its core principles. Few automakers still produced off-road vehicles of this caliber.
The Land Cruiser had become one of the automotive industry’s last true survivors. It retained its classic body-on-frame design, robust suspension, and exceptional off-road capabilities – even though most owners primarily used it on paved roads.
Although the Land Cruiser 150 debuted in 2009, the exterior underwent only subtle transformations over the years. The 2020 update brought changes to both aesthetics and technology. The vehicle received revised headlights and a redesigned front end, featuring an extended, curved bumper for enhanced pedestrian safety. The grille, which had previously been available in both chrome and black finishes, returned to a black design with the Black Pack option for 2020.
The interior showcased a modernized infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Toyota highlighted the system’s improved performance and responsiveness. The new setup occupied the entire upper portion of the center console, offering a more sophisticated appearance than the previous flat, vertically oriented interface.
Mechanically, the 2020 Land Cruiser Prado introduced a Euro 6d-compliant engine to meet European emission standards. This update included a refined 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine paired with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission – a notable shift from the traditional configuration where manual transmission was standard and automatic was optional.
