Toyota unveiled its latest addition to the family, the 2023 Grand Highlander, shortly before the commencement of the Chicago Auto Show, presenting it in three distinct trim levels.
Expanding on its already robust SUV portfolio, the Japanese manufacturer positioned the Grand Highlander as a formidable contender in the minivan and crossover segments. The new model came equipped with three engine options and trim configurations, offering seating for eight passengers along with a spacious cargo area.
Externally, the imposing SUV showcased a distinctive front end adorned with LED daytime running lights and headlamps. The front grille, integrated into the bumper, displayed a trapezoidal design with angular accents. The vehicle’s profile featured robust wheel arches and sculpted doors, while the sloping D-pillars and tailgate created a balanced appearance despite the extended rear overhang compared to the standard Highlander.
The interior accommodated up to eight occupants with premium amenities, highlighted by a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system mounted on a floating console. Higher trims offered leather upholstery, and an alternative seven-seat layout with captain’s chairs in the second row was available. With the second and third rows folded, the cargo capacity expanded to an impressive 98 cubic feet (2,775 liters).
Powering the Grand Highlander were three drivetrain choices: a pure gasoline option and two hybrid variants. The 2.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and the 2.5-liter Hybrid could be had with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive, while the 2.5-liter Hybrid Max was exclusively available with all-wheel drive.
