Nissan unveiled a new generation of its iconic Z-saga in August 2021, marking a thrilling return to turbocharged engines reminiscent of the classic 1980s 300ZX. This seventh-generation model reignited excitement among enthusiasts by blending modern performance with the heritage that made the Z-cars legendary.
The Nissan Z lineage began in 1969 with the Nissan Fairlady Z, marketed outside Japan as the Datsun 240Z. It quickly became a cult favorite due to its agile handling and sleek, sporty design. Early Z-cars were relatively simple sporty coupes, but the 2021 seventh-generation model - known as the Z400 - brought a completely new level of sophistication and power.
The design of the new Z took inspiration from the Z-Proto concept revealed earlier in 2021. It retained the signature long hood and short rear deck, classic trademarks of the Z lineage. The front end featured distinctive LED headlights with half-circular daytime running lights (DRLs), evoking the round headlights of the original Fairlady. At the rear, 3D LED taillights and combination lamps merged cutting-edge technology with design cues from the Z32 300ZX, delivering a modern yet nostalgic aesthetic.
Nissan didn’t wait long to update the seventh-generation Z and introduced a refreshed version in Fall 2023 for the 2024 model year. Unfortunately, the 2024 Z was not made available in the European market, disappointing many fans overseas. However, for those who could get their hands on it, the 2024 update represented significant improvements in every aspect - from exterior styling and interior refinement to powertrain enhancements.
The 2024 Z came in three distinct trim levels: Sport, Performance, and Nismo. The Sport and Performance trims featured a slightly shorter overall length, as they lacked the three-piece rear bumper and aggressive front splitter that distinguished the top-spec Nismo. The Sport trim rode on 18-inch forged alloy wheels, while the Performance and Nismo models boasted larger 19-inch alloys, with the Nismo fitted with unique Dunlop Sport MAXX tires optimized for track performance. The Nismo’s larger rear wing further emphasized its focus on high-speed handling and track capability.
At the back, the 2024 Z received a new taillight layout, which gave the car a wider and more muscular stance. The Nismo model also featured a bold red trim accentuating the redesigned bumper, and an ascending design line flowing toward the rear exhausts, reinforcing its aggressive and race-ready character.
