The Nissan Z Coupe family welcomed a new member in 2008 with the introduction of the 370Z, offering a more powerful and refined experience compared to the previous 2003 model. Nissan's legacy with the Z series stretches back decades, starting in 1970 with the Datsun 240Z (also known as the Z240), which laid the foundation for one of the most iconic Japanese sports car lineups. The lineage includes notable predecessors like the 300ZX (Z32) and the 350Z (Z33).
Interestingly, rather than following the typical trend of making new generations larger, Nissan shortened the wheelbase of the 370Z by 100 mm (4 inches) compared to the 350Z. Although the overall length decreased by 70 mm (2.7 inches), Nissan increased the car’s width and front/rear track by 33 mm (1.3 inches), improving stability and handling.
The 2013 refreshed Nissan 370Z Coupe, unveiled at the Chicago International Auto Show in 2012, arrived in the post-financial crisis market aiming to strengthen its appeal. Despite the challenge of improving an already well-regarded sports car, Nissan succeeded in updating the 370Z without compromising its core qualities. Exterior updates included new LED daytime running lights framing the front apron, a redesigned front bumper with enhanced aerodynamics, a central air intake, and a lower lip spoiler. The car’s distinctive Z-shaped headlights now came standard with Xenon high beams.
Under the hood, the 2013 370Z retained its 3.7-liter V6 engine with slight enhancements, boosting power by one horsepower to a total of 332 hp (337 PS). Transmission options included a standard six-speed manual and an available seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, offering drivers both traditional and modern choices for a spirited driving experience.
