The 2017 Land Rover Discovery represented a groundbreaking redesign, yet managed to retain the distinctive two-stage roof characteristic of the original Discovery Series I.
Compared to earlier versions, the 2017 model sported a more compact grille, aiming to enhance aerodynamic efficiency. This was particularly achievable given the boxy nature of its predecessors like the Discovery 3 and LR4. The primary design challenge lay in balancing improved aerodynamics with maintaining its rugged SUV aesthetic and off-road prowess.
The front fascia featured a smaller grille paired with an oversized bumper, incorporating a silver shield at the bottom and brake cooling vents on the sides. The roofline boasted a subtle upward slope above the C-pillar to boost rear headroom, complemented by standard 19-inch wheels or optional 22-inch light-alloy wheels for a sportier stance.
Inside, the Discovery shared luxury features with its Jaguar counterparts, most notably a dual-screen infotainment system. True to its lineage, it offered seating for up to seven occupants, with the third-row seats spacious enough to accommodate adults comfortably.
Off-road capabilities remained true to Land Rover’s heritage, with an impressive wading depth of 850 mm (33.5 inches) and a ground clearance of up to 22 cm (8.6 inches), ensuring exceptional performance on unpaved terrain.
