The 2022 Land Rover Defender 130, a long-wheelbase variant, entered the market two years after its counterparts, following in the footsteps of its renowned, robust, body-on-frame ancestor.
Land Rover introduced a more practical version of its already rugged vehicle in 1983 by extending the chassis to a 127" (3.2m) wheelbase, offering both single- and double-cab pickup configurations. Although the Defender nameplate wasn’t used initially, it was later introduced with the long-wheelbase option. For the 2022 model, Land Rover adopted a different strategy for its iconic SUV.
While sharing the Defender 110’s wheelbase, the 130 version boasted an extended rear section. This included a lengthened trunk floor with enlarged side windows and quarter panels behind the rear doors. Despite a 1.49 m (58.7") rear overhang that slightly reduced the SUV’s departure angle, it provided increased interior space. The spare wheel remained mounted on the rear door, despite the additional space available.
The most notable interior modification was the addition of a third-row seat, accommodating three adults and creating an eight-seat configuration. The trunk space was impressively spacious, offering up to 2,516 liters (88.8 cu-ft), compared to the Defender 110’s 2,380 liters (84 cu-ft). Consistent with its siblings, the SUV featured an 11.4" Pivi Pro touchscreen infotainment system with OTA update capabilities.
Powering the 2022 Defender 130 was a selection of inline-six hybrid engines, delivering between 246hp and 395hp.
