Stylewise, Kia didn’t always have a clear direction for designing cars that appealed broadly to customers. It experimented with various lines and shapes - some successful, others less so. The 2009 facelift for the second-generation Optima, revealed at the 2008 New York Motor Show, introduced sharper angled headlights and a reshaped grille featuring the now-iconic “Tiger-nose” design by Peter Schreyer. The fourth generation of the Optima, launched in July 2015, further refined the design with a European flair - raked windshields, swept headlights, and a sportier sedan profile. In 2019, Kia introduced the fifth-generation Optima K5 with a bold new design language, including angular shapes and a distinctive “Shark-skin” mesh grille. While some features like LED taillights and headlights were optional rather than standard, the K5 remained a compelling choice for drivers wanting sedan comfort combined with efficiency.
