The Q40 was designed to take the place of the aging G37, offering a refreshed look and solid performance in the midsize luxury sedan segment. Though not groundbreaking in terms of new technology, the Q40 still held its own with a blend of premium materials and proven mechanical reliability.
The sedan featured four doors and seated five passengers, with a single, well-equipped trim level. Standard amenities included 17-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic xenon headlights, cruise control, heated 8-way power front seats, leather upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, a rearview camera, and a 6-speaker audio system. While the base setup was competitive, tech-savvy buyers had limited upgrade paths.
Infiniti did offer the Navigation Plus package, which enhanced the Q40’s interior with a built-in navigation system, voice command capability, traffic updates, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a 10-speaker premium sound system. A sunroof could also be added as a standalone option. Yet, compared to rivals in its class, the Q40 lacked more advanced safety and driver assistance technologies that were rapidly becoming standard elsewhere.
Powering the Q40 was a 3.7-liter V6 engine delivering 328 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission, the sedan came in rear-wheel-drive by default, with all-wheel-drive available for drivers in harsher climates. For added control in wintery conditions, the AWD variant also featured a “Snow Mode” to soften throttle response and improve traction.
