With Infiniti already offering a three-row SUV in its range, the QX, there was still a gap in the lineup. Most premium car makers were enjoying great success with their luxurious crossovers, prompting Infiniti to release the JX.
Based on the same platform used for the Nissan Murano, the JX was longer and wider. As mentioned, it offered seating for seven with tilt-and-slide second-row seats that provided ample legroom and easy access to the third row.
The Infiniti JX was available in a single version, the JX35. Customers looking for additional features could choose from four different packages, each packed with numerous options. While adding these packages could be costly, the base version was well-equipped, featuring 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic bi-xenon headlights, LED tail lights, fog lights, heated exterior mirrors, keyless entry, keyless go, a power sunroof, and a power liftgate. The interior included leather upholstery, heated front seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, a rearview camera, a central display screen, and a six-speaker audio system.
The available packages were the Premium, Theater, Deluxe Touring, and Technology package. However, it wasn’t straightforward to select just one, as the Deluxe Touring required the Theater package, and the Technology package required the Deluxe Touring.
Under the hood, the JX was powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produced 265 horsepower. Paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the JX was slightly underpowered compared to sportier crossovers in the market.
The JX was offered with both front-wheel drive and an optional all-wheel-drive system. Despite the drivetrain differences, the fuel consumption remained nearly the same across both configurations.
