Hyundai continued its journey towards electrification in 2022 by launching the Ioniq 6, impressing the automotive industry with its aerodynamic design.
By this time, Hyundai had firmly established itself as a significant player in the electric vehicle market, with several models already available to consumers. However, the company’s lineup was missing a sedan offering, particularly one with a four-door coupe aesthetic. The new Ioniq 6 filled this gap while sharing its platform with the well-known KIA EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The vehicle’s front end showcased a low nose and sharp fascia that bore a striking resemblance to the Tesla Model 3, its primary competitor. The car’s sleek profile contributed to an exceptional drag coefficient of 0.21, featuring a flowing line that culminated in a sloping rear window. A distinctive design element was the beltline, which followed a downward curve towards the rear, evoking the silhouette of a Porsche 911—albeit with four doors. The rear design, complete with a ducktail and a spoiler integrated into the lower section of the rear windshield, further echoed the iconic German sports car.
Hyundai described the interior as human-centric, but with a focus on creating individual spaces for occupants. The driver occupied a dedicated area, equipped with an extended dual-screen setup and separated from the front passenger by a tall, angular center console. The sloping roofline necessitated the installation of lower-set rear seats to ensure adequate headroom for adult passengers in the back.
