Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury division, has given the GV80 lineup a comprehensive update for the 2025 model year, nearly four years after its initial debut in 2019.
Recognizing the lucrative potential of the premium automotive segment, Genesis followed in the footsteps of other Japanese manufacturers like Honda (Acura), Nissan (Infiniti), and Toyota (Lexus) who established their luxury brands in the 80s and 90s. Hyundai introduced Genesis in 2015, initially focusing on sedans before expanding into the SUV market with the mid-size GV80 in 2019. The 2023 update brought significant exterior and interior enhancements to the vehicle.
The front fascia of the 2023 GV80 retained its distinctive twin-headlight design, each incorporating LED blade lights. These flank a reimagined, diamond-patterned grille reminiscent of the 2019 model but with updated styling. The bumper received a redesign featuring triangular side intakes and a flatter lower air intake for improved engine and AC cooling. A protective skid plate beneath the apron mimics an aluminum underbody shield typically found on off-road vehicles.
On the sides, the refreshed 2025 GV80 showcases new trim elements for the faux vents on the front fenders, which also house turn signals. The sculpted doors and rear quarter panels, which extend over the wheels like muscular shoulders, remain largely unchanged. At the rear, a newly designed bumper features chrome accents in the corners extended by red trim elements. The lower apron incorporates two chrome elements and V-shaped surrounds for the side-exit exhausts, echoing the diamond-patterned grille design.
The interior transformation is most notable in the dashboard area, where the 2025 GV80 introduces a 27-inch OLED screen integrated into the redesigned dashboard. This replaces the previous setup that included a 12.3-inch instrument cluster display and a separate 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. The leather-appointed cabin offers heated and ventilated front bucket seats, along with a three-person rear bench where the outboard seats also feature climate-controlled comfort. The audio system has been upgraded to feature Bang & Olufsen equipment, succeeding the previous Lexicon setup – both brands being part of Harman International, an independent Samsung subsidiary.
Powering the base version of the 2025 GV80 is a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Customers also have the option of upgrading to a more powerful 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine.
