In 2022, Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai, launched its inaugural fully-electric crossover for the 2023 model year, signaling the brand’s entry into the electric vehicle market.
Having made substantial investments in developing an all-electric platform, the Korean manufacturer aimed to recoup its expenses by selling more vehicles with higher profit margins. Besides the Ioniq 5 and Kia’s EV6, which had already established a strong presence in the EV segment, the GV60 brought a premium and luxurious dimension to the automaker’s electric vehicle lineup.
The GV60 showcased a distinctive design compared to its electric counterparts. Unlike the angular lines of the Ioniq 5, this hatchback crossover featured sleek, rounded contours. The front end prominently displayed a wide black grille, although its functionality was limited due to the reduced cooling requirements of an electric vehicle. LED headlights were positioned on the upper part of the bumper, complemented by daytime running lights above them. A unique design element was the hood’s clamshell configuration, which opened in unison with the upper sections of the fenders.
The interior exuded both luxury and cutting-edge technology. Traditional elements were kept to a minimum, consisting only of the seats and a two-spoke steering wheel. Conventional side mirrors were replaced with cameras and interior display screens. The driver was greeted by a expansive integrated screen combining the instrument panel and infotainment system. The center console between the front seats housed a crystal gear selector and cup holders.
Powering the GV60 were four different drivetrain configurations, offering a performance range from 228 to 490 horsepower, with options for single or dual motor all-wheel drive setups.
