Hyundai launched the G70 as a premium vehicle targeting the American market, utilizing the same platform as its sibling, the Kia Stinger.
The Korean automaker presented an updated iteration of the G70 in 2021, enriching the sport sedan with additional features. Despite not having the same level of brand recognition as its rivals, the vehicle successfully positioned itself in the premium mid-size sedan segment.
Created under the guidance of German designer Peter Schreyer, the G70 emerged as one of Hyundai’s most daring endeavors. For the 2021 update, Schreyer refined the front fascia with slender quad-LED signature lamps. The expansive diamond-patterned grille received a black finish for sport trims, enhancing the vehicle’s aggressive appearance. The front fenders featured faux exhaust vents behind the wheel arches, though their plastic covers appeared somewhat out of place, bearing a resemblance to the B-shaped grilles found on Bentley models. The rear end also echoed Bentley styling with its oval-shaped quad exhaust tips. Conversely, the unpainted matte plastic section on the lower part of the rear bumper presented a rather unusual aesthetic.
The interior design by Genesis masterfully blended luxury with sportiness. The front sport seats boasted robust side bolstering. The imposing center console showcased aluminum accents, housing a rotary dial for the infotainment system and gear selector. The leather-upholstered cabin exuded opulence, particularly with the available quilted finish option. A 10.25-inch floating touchscreen graced the top of the center stack. The driver’s instrument panel featured two analog dials and two gauges, complemented by a central color LCD display.
Mechanically, Genesis streamlined the engine lineup to three options: two turbocharged gasoline engines and a turbo-diesel unit, primarily aimed at European consumers.
