When discussing Honda, our minds typically conjure images of dependable, long-lasting family vehicles. However, it’s important to remember that Honda’s portfolio also includes performance-oriented brands like Acura and the Type R Accord. The S2000 stands as another testament to Honda’s prowess in creating exhilarating sports cars.
The journey of the S2000 began in 1995 when the concept car made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show. Four years later, the production version—a two-seat roadster inspired by racing technology—was unveiled to the public.
Under the hood, the S2000 boasted a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 240 horsepower, with the ability to rev up to an impressive 9,000 RPM. The strategic placement of the engine behind the front axle achieved an ideal 50:50 weight distribution, making the sports car a joy to maneuver.
Mated to the engine was a specially designed 6-speed manual transmission, offering seamless and rapid gear changes. The S2000 also featured an advanced electrically assisted power steering system, delivering exceptional road feel while minimizing energy loss.
Suspension duties were handled by a robust double wishbone setup at both the front and rear, providing outstanding stability on the road. The car’s structure was built around a rigid X-frame monocoque chassis, ensuring exceptional rigidity.
In 1999, Honda introduced the second generation of the S2000, which featured a larger 2.2-liter engine, further enhancing its performance capabilities.
