In 2008, Honda launched an updated version of the Civic sedan for the European market, aligning it with the upcoming Euro 5 emissions regulations. This refreshed model was available to European drivers before its American counterparts, thanks to Honda’s newly operational manufacturing plant in Turkey, which was ready to take on production orders.
Externally, the updated Civic retained its headlights and grille design but featured a redesigned bumper. The 2008 model boasted rounded fog lights instead of the previous rectangular ones, a trapezoidal lower grille, and new taillights with integrated turn signals positioned at the lower outer corners.
The interior received upgrades with new materials and an updated infotainment system. Mid-level trims came with sport-styled black fabric seats that included suede side bolsters. Standard equipment included a 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat, which also facilitated easier access to the trunk.
Mechanically, the European Civic was available with a single powertrain option: a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine with a single camshaft, shared with the hatchback variant. Buyers could choose between a six-speed manual transmission or opt for a five-speed automatic. For those interested in eco-friendly options, a hybrid variant was available, featuring a 1.3-liter IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) system paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
