Hyundai launched the G70 as a premium vehicle targeting the American market, utilizing the same platform as its sibling, the Kia Stinger.
The Korean automaker presented an updated iteration of the G70 in 2021, enriching the sport sedan with additional features. Despite not having the same level of brand recognition as its rivals, the vehicle successfully positioned itself in the premium mid-size sedan segment.
Created under the guidance of German designer Peter Schreyer, the G70 became one of Hyundai’s most daring endeavors. The 2021 redesign saw improvements such as refined LED quad-signature headlamps. The prominent diamond-patterned grille received a black finish for sport trims, enhancing the vehicle’s aggressive appearance. Fake exhaust vents were added to the front fenders behind the wheel arches, though their plastic covers appeared somewhat out of place, reminiscent of Bentley’s B-shaped grilles. The rear featured quad exhaust tips with an oval design, also echoing the British luxury brand, while the lower section of the rear bumper sported an unusual matte, unpainted plastic area.
The interior was meticulously crafted to blend luxury with sportiness. Front sport seats offered robust side support, complemented by a high center console boasting aluminum accents, a rotary dial for the infotainment system, and a gear selector. The leather upholstery exuded opulence, particularly with the available quilted finish. A 10.25-inch floating touchscreen graced the top of the center stack. The driver’s instrument cluster showcased two analog dials and two gauges, flanking a central color LCD display.
Mechanically, the lineup was streamlined to three engine options: two turbocharged gasoline engines and a turbo-diesel variant, primarily aimed at European consumers.
