At the 2011 New York Auto Show, Ford presented the updated 2012 Taurus, aiming to boost sales through a series of refinements that focused primarily on technological advancements, though exterior updates were also included.
The 2012 model year brought significant environmental improvements across the entire lineup. Key enhancements included the introduction of electronic power steering for all variants and an innovative automatic fuel cutoff system activated during forceful deceleration.
Externally, the vehicle received a revised front grille characterized by three narrow horizontal chrome bars set within an octagonal frame. The headlight design was also updated to complement the new front fascia.
The interior showcased the new MyFord Touch infotainment system, blending traditional physical buttons with touchscreen controls. Additionally, the seating underwent an eco-friendly upgrade with soy-based foam replacing petroleum-derived materials, reflecting Ford’s broader commitment to sustainability beyond engine performance.
Under the hood, the range featured a newly developed 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine equipped with turbocharging and direct fuel injection, delivering improved power and torque figures compared to its predecessor. The 3.5-liter V6 variant benefited from twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), resulting in an additional 27 horsepower. Both engine options were paired with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission.
