Ford LTD is an iconic model of the American automaker, produced from 1965 to 1991. The abbreviation LTD has several versions of origin: from "Luxury Trim Decor" to simple markings without a specific meaning.
The car was produced in various body types: sedan, coupe and station wagon. The model was mainly based on V8 engines, the standard transmission was a three-speed automatic. The wheel arrangement is 4×2.
During its existence, the model went through several stages of development. In 1965-1968, it was the starting version based on the Galaxie 500 LTD. In 1977, there was a division into a full-size LTD and LTD II version. 1979 was marked by the transition to the Panther platform. And in 1983, the model was divided into two lines: a full-size LTD Crown Victoria and a compact version based on the Fox.
The engine lineup included various modifications: 302 CID V8, 351 CID V8, 255 CID V8, 3.8-liter V6 Essex and 5.0-liter V8 with fuel injection. The package featured luxurious interior trim, various transmission options, improved maneuverability and increased fuel economy.
The model was especially popular among police services due to its robust body structure. LTD was used not only in North America, but also in countries dependent on the United States.
As a result, the Ford LTD became one of the most successful Ford projects in the full-size car segment. The model was distinguished by a high level of comfort, reliability and prestigious status. Production ceased in 1986, and the revolutionary Ford Taurus became its successor.
