The fifth iteration of the Ford Expedition was unveiled in autumn 2024 for the 2025 model year, showcasing substantial advancements over its predecessor.
Ford decided to discontinue the fourth-generation Expedition after just under eight years following its initial launch in 2017. Despite several updates in 2019, 2020, and 2022 that kept it looking modern, Ford aimed for even greater sophistication. The 2025 Ford Expedition emerged with enhanced technology, improved comfort features, and added luxury elements befitting the brand’s flagship SUV. While maintaining its traditional body-on-frame construction, the vehicle featured an entirely new chassis despite superficial similarities to its predecessor.
The front fascia of the 2025 Ford Expedition boasts prominent C-shaped daytime running lights. Its headlamps, equipped with three separate LED units, are positioned below the upper DRL strip. The expansive grille with horizontal slats incorporates off-road lights for the Tremor trim. Side air intakes on the lower bumper contribute to reduced fuel consumption by creating an aerodynamic air curtain. Additionally, a protective metallic shield beneath the bumper guards the drivetrain. A chrome-plated “EXPEDITION” nameplate on the hood adds a touch of luxury.
Since its debut in 1997, the Expedition has consistently impressed with its imposing dimensions. While the 2025 model didn’t significantly increase in size compared to its predecessor, its design received a comprehensive overhaul. Flared wheel arches on both axles and a chrome trim along the lower window area accentuate its substantial presence, despite not being the largest in its class. Unlike other manufacturers experimenting with flush-mounted door handles, the 2025 Expedition retains traditional grab handles. Door mirrors feature LED turn signals and integrated cameras for a 360-degree view system.
The interior has been meticulously crafted to impress. Accommodating up to eight passengers and offering optional captain’s chairs in the second row, the 2025 Expedition clearly targets the premium segment. The cabin features an entirely new design with no carryover elements from the previous generation. The driver faces a redesigned dashboard with a flat upper section and a 24-inch panoramic display at the base of the windshield. A 13.5-inch touchscreen in the center stack controls navigation, media, and climate settings. Lower trims feature standard cloth upholstery, while higher grades come with premium leather interiors.
Powering the 2025 Ford Expedition is a 3.5-liter V6 engine available in two output configurations: 400 hp (406 PS) and 440 hp (446 PS). Both versions are paired with a standard ten-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle benefits from a fully independent suspension system and a redesigned chassis, significantly enhancing its capabilities. With independent suspension all around and a towing capacity of up to 9,600 lbs (4,354 kg), the 2025 Ford Expedition stands as a worthy successor to its predecessors.
