The Jeep Nitro was built on an extended chassis shared with the Jeep Liberty, featuring a distinctive design characterized by a truck-inspired grille reminiscent of RAM models, exaggerated fender flares, and large wheels ranging up to 20 inches depending on the trim level.
For the 2007 model year, this compact SUV was offered in two primary trim configurations: the SXT and the SLT.
Standard features across the range included 16-inch wheels, air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, power door locks, and a roof rack.
The SXT trim added 17-inch alloy wheels, body-colored exterior trim, cruise control, audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, and the Load ’n Go system with a sliding cargo floor.
The SLT trim could be further enhanced with the R/T package, which included 20-inch chrome wheels, suspension tuning, and upgraded cloth upholstery.
Additional standalone options comprised leather upholstery, a sunroof, a navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, and towing equipment.
The base engine for 2007 was a 3.7-liter V6 engine producing 210 horsepower, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard in the SXT or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission that came standard in the SLT.
The more powerful Nitro R/T variant was equipped with a 4.0-liter V6 engine generating 260 horsepower, coupled with a standard 5-speed automatic transmission.
All trim levels offered an optional 4WD system.
In terms of safety, the Nitro was equipped with standard features including antilock disc brakes, stability control, and full-length side curtain airbags.
