The fifth iteration of the Dodge Caravan made its debut at the 2007 North American International Motor Show, exclusively in a long-wheelbase configuration.
Chrysler, renowned for its expertise in multi-purpose vehicles, showcased this prowess with the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. Following four generations of dual-length models, the manufacturer opted for a single, universal size. Certain markets also had the option of a European-spec diesel engine.
Externally, the vehicle underwent notable changes, particularly with taller headlights. The design shifted away from the SUV-inspired aesthetics of competitors, adopting a more traditional MPV appearance characterized by squared-off bodywork and rounded wheel arches.
The interior featured three rows of seating. The second row offered fold-flat functionality with storage integrated into the floor, while the third row was removable, allowing for quick conversion into a cargo van configuration. An entertainment system option included ceiling-mounted DVD players for the second and third rows, complete with individual screens and headphone setups.
In terms of drivetrain, the fifth generation abandoned the all-wheel-drive option from its predecessor, being offered solely with front-wheel drive. Power options included a 3.3-liter V6 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, while the remaining four engine choices were mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
