The 2012 Dodge Dart originated from the Dodge Hornet concept car, which was unveiled by Chrysler back in 2006.
Originally planned for a 2010 launch, the Hornet’s release was delayed due to Chrysler’s financial struggles following the 2009 economic crisis. After merging with Fiat, the company revived the project, creating a new model based on Fiat’s platform and rebranding it as the Dodge Dart.
The debut of the Dodge Dart took place at the North American International Auto Show in Michigan. Outside the United States, this vehicle was marketed under the name Fiat Viaggio.
The vehicle came in three distinct trim levels: SE, SXT, and Limited.
The entry-level SE trim featured a standard 2.0-liter engine producing 160 horsepower paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, a basic 4-speaker audio system, power windows, and 15-inch steel wheels with plastic covers. An optional package for the SE included air conditioning, Bluetooth audio streaming, and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The mid-range SXT trim (also marketed as SXT Sport) offered upgraded features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, a 6-speaker audio system, air conditioning, keyless entry, an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 6-speed automatic transmission, and a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine with 160 horsepower.
The top-of-the-line Limited trim boasted additional luxury features including 17-inch alloy wheels, premium Nappa leather seats with heating, a more powerful 2.4-liter engine generating 184 horsepower, keyless go functionality, navigation, and a high-end 506-watt Alpine audio system.
