The Suburban holds the title of the longest-running nameplate in automotive history, having been continuously produced by Chevrolet since 1935 and progressing through twelve generations up to 2021.
In 2023, the twelfth generation of the Suburban underwent a mid-cycle update, alongside its shorter counterpart, the Tahoe. Having dominated the full-size SUV market in the United States for over 45 years, Chevrolet aimed to maintain its momentum. The automaker significantly enhanced the Suburban across all aspects, giving the large SUV a nearly next-generation appearance, though it retained the same chassis as the pre-facelift model. Additional technological upgrades to the cabin and engine options were introduced for the 2025 model year.
The 2025 Chevy Suburban’s front end featured redesigned daytime running lights with angular elements pointing towards the vehicle’s center. The large grille, adorned with horizontal slats and chrome accents, showcased the prominent bow-tie emblem. Below the bumper, Chevrolet incorporated an additional cooling area and a subtle lip spoiler. The High Country trim level boasted piano-black accents between the hood and main grille. To enhance aerodynamics, the automaker added vents along the front fascia to create an air curtain around the wheels.
From the side profile, the Suburban retained its characteristic long SUV silhouette, featuring four doors and an extended rear window. Standard equipment included 18-inch alloy wheels, with options ranging up to 24-inch alloys depending on trim level and selected features. Like its predecessor, the vehicle could be equipped with power-retractable running boards for easier entry and exit. The darkened B-pillar contributed to the vehicle’s imposing presence, while black D-pillars created the illusion of a continuous window area, blending the side and tailgate windows. At the rear, the automaker introduced revised taillights with a lengthened lower section and a shortened upper portion.
Inside, the Suburban catered to large families, offering three rows of seating that accommodated up to nine passengers. The redesigned dashboard was positioned lower than before to improve forward visibility for the driver. The instrument cluster display was reduced by one inch (2.5 cm) to 11 inches diagonally, while still providing ample information. A prominent 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system was installed, featuring a physical volume knob in the upper left corner.
A notable advancement was the sophisticated camera system, enabling owners to monitor the vehicle’s interior remotely via a smartphone app even after locking the vehicle. Access to the second and third rows was convenient, with sufficient legroom and headroom for all passengers. A spacious trunk remained available behind the third row.
For the 2025 model year, Chevrolet offered the Suburban with three engine options: two gasoline-powered V8s and a 3.0-liter inline-six turbo-diesel engine shared with the Silverado. All versions were paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission, driving either the rear wheels or all four corners. AWD models also featured a low-range transfer case.
