In 2022, Chevrolet unveiled the 2024 Silverado EV, marking a new era for its pickup truck range with an electric vehicle primarily targeting recreational users rather than work-focused consumers.
Sharing the advanced ULTIUM platform with its counterparts, the GMC Sierra EV and GMC HUMMER, the Silverado EV demonstrated the future evolution of utility vehicles. The model’s versatility was evident through its multiple trim levels, including both a Work Truck configuration and the RST First Edition variant.
The truck’s exterior design represented a significant departure from traditional Silverado models. Its front end showcased slim daytime running lights and an LED strip spanning the upper part of the main fascia. The headlamps were positioned lower, in separate clusters on the sides, while the grille area featured a body-colored panel with the iconic bow-tie emblem. The vehicle’s rugged character was further emphasized by plastic cladding around the wheel arches. The cargo bed included a Multi-Flex Midgate system for extended loading capabilities.
The interior offered premium materials and cutting-edge technology, typical of high-end vehicles. The cabin featured dual screens for the infotainment system and a separate display for the instrument panel. The rear seating area accommodated three passengers comfortably thanks to a split-folding bench.
The true innovation lay beneath the vehicle’s surface. The ULTIUM platform enabled both four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering capabilities. With an impressive output of 664 horsepower (673 PS) and 780 pound-feet (1057 Nm) of torque, the Silverado EV could tow up to 10,000 pounds (4,536 kg) and carry a payload of 1,300 pounds (590 kg). Additionally, it delivered remarkable performance, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph (0-97 kph) in under 4.5 seconds.
