Following the impressive debut of the original Bolt EV, Chevrolet launched a thoroughly updated version five years later, which appeared to be a virtually new generation of the vehicle.
With over 100,000 units sold within just five years, the Bolt EV proved its popularity before the arrival of the 2021 model. Although technically not a new generation, the updated version showcased notable improvements that enhanced its appeal. Most notably, the price was reduced by approximately 15% compared to its predecessor, once again positioning the vehicle as the most affordable electric car on the market, surpassing Tesla in this regard.
The 2021 Bolt EV retained its distinctive silhouette, blending hatchback and minivan design elements. While not the most visually striking combination, it proved effective for the Chevrolet brand. The exterior received LED daytime running lights and headlamps, an upgrade from the previous model’s halogen bulbs. The front fascia was redesigned with a blacked-out grille featuring the iconic Chevy emblem at its center.
The interior boasted a clean dashboard layout centered around a 10.2-inch infotainment screen. An 8-inch TFT display replaced traditional analog gauges in the instrument cluster. An optional driver-assistance feature monitored fatigue levels and advised the driver to take a break when necessary – a useful addition given the vehicle’s silent operation for its five occupants. The rear seat featured a 60/40 split-folding bench, providing flexibility for cargo space expansion.
Mechanically, the 2021 model retained the same electric powertrain configuration as its predecessor. A 200-horsepower electric motor, paired with a 65 kWh battery pack, delivered an impressive driving range of up to 259 miles (416 kilometers) on a single charge.
