After spending four years on the market, the Cadillac XT5 compact luxury crossover underwent a comprehensive update that impacted its exterior design, interior features, and powertrain.
The 2020 Cadillac XT5 marked a new chapter for the American luxury brand, as it introduced a revised product strategy and reorganized the trim levels to better align with the vehicle’s character. The lineup now consisted of three main versions: the well-appointed Luxury as the base model, followed by the Premium Luxury, and culminating in the top-tier Sport variant. All versions benefited from an upgraded appearance, enhanced technology offerings, and a new engine option.
Safety took center stage in the redesign of the 2020 Cadillac XT5. The front end showcased updated LED headlights with IntelliBeams across the entire range. The grille design varied by trim level, featuring dark tones with chrome accents for the lower grades and a fully blacked-out appearance for the Sport model, which gave it a more dynamic look. The lower bumper area sported an A-shaped air intake flanked by vertical daytime running lights integrated into the side scoops.
Although changes to the vehicle’s profile were minimal, Cadillac enriched the exterior package across all versions. The Luxury and Premium Luxury trims came standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, with optional 20-inch wheels available, while the Sport model boasted unique 20-inch wheels with a twelve-spoke design. The range offered nine exterior colors, with Radiant silver metallic being the only standard option. The rear end featured distinctive boomerang-shaped taillights extending over the rear quarters and flanking the sculpted tailgate, complemented by chrome-finished dual exhausts below the bumper that emphasized the vehicle’s sporty nature.
Inside, the 2020 Cadillac XT4 presented a revitalized cabin with an expanded list of standard and optional features. A central eight-inch touchscreen CUE infotainment system was standard on all models, with additional control via a rotary knob on the center console. An optional 14-speaker Bose sound system was available for enhanced audio quality. Upholstery options varied by trim level, including leatherette, semi-aniline leather, and full leather. The rear seat featured a 60/40 split-folding bench that significantly increased cargo capacity from 30 cubic feet (850 liters) to 63 cubic feet (1,784 liters) when fully folded.
A major highlight of the North American 2020 Cadillac XT4 was the introduction of a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 237 horsepower (240 PS). This was in contrast to the previous Chinese market version, which offered higher power output but with increased emissions. The 3.6-liter engine remained available, maintaining the same performance specifications as the pre-facelift model. Both engine options were paired with a standard nine-speed automatic transmission, offering the choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive depending on the selected configuration.
