In 2021, Acura unveiled an updated version of its third-generation RDX for the 2022 model year, aiming to enhance its dynamic capabilities. Despite the model’s youth—it was only two years old—the company decided to refresh it after achieving over half a million sales between 2006 and 2021.
As Acura’s most agile SUV, the RDX received design updates to complement its performance. Externally, the signature pentagonal grille sported a sleeker chrome border, and LED fog lights became available. The exhaust design varied by trim: circular tips for the A-Spec model and rectangular ones for other versions. The vehicle showcased 19- or 20-inch light-alloy wheels, each offering a choice of five, ten, or 15-spoke designs.
Inside the cabin, subtle yet significant changes improved comfort. Enhanced soundproofing materials were added to the ceiling, dashboard, and firewall, resulting in a quieter ride. Rear doors benefited from sound-deadening materials and acoustic glass, further enhancing passenger comfort.
Mechanically, the RDX retained its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine but with a reduced cold-idle speed from 1,100 rpm to 950 rpm. The suspension system received a retune, featuring a four-mode switch that allowed drivers to adjust handling characteristics according to their preferences and road conditions.
