Despite the global financial turmoil, the Acura CSX emerged as a top seller in Canada, earning itself a refreshed makeover in 2009. This updated model brought a host of enhancements to the table while retaining its economical engines and automatic transmission options. Performance enthusiasts were particularly pleased with the introduction of a 200 horsepower variant.
Visually, the 2009 CSX sported a redesigned front end with Acura’s signature Power Plenum grille. While Honda was updating the European Civic that year, the North American version received its own unique tweaks. The headlights maintained their familiar shape but gained clear lenses, and the rear end boasted a stylish dual exhaust setup.
The interior received a high-tech upgrade with a state-of-the-art infotainment system featuring a touchscreen interface and a navigation system, all housed within a futuristic cockpit design. The dashboard layout remained distinctive, with the speedometer positioned atop the dash and a compact tachometer integrated behind the steering wheel.
Under the hood, the standard and automatic models continued with a more modest 2.0-liter engine, but the Type-S variant received a major upgrade. It was equipped with the coveted K-series engine, previously seen only on the European Type-R. Mated to a 6-speed manual, this naturally aspirated powerplant delivered an impressive 200 horsepower. The Type-S was a true head-turner, especially considering its superior suspension setup – fully independent compared to the semi-independent rear suspension found in the Civic Type-R. Unfortunately for European fans, this particular variant remained exclusive to other markets.
